riding buddy has 01 ultra-glide classic with 57000 miles on It but the problem is in the last week it started dying when you first start out on a ride no set distance bike just dies engine light comes on pull in clutch in hit start switch fires right back up and does not happen again on the ride.
I have a Thundermax tuner and once every 1500-2000 mi it does exactly that
Nobody has a clue but it starts back up and runs fine. Where it is an intermittent problem it is very hard to diagnose
My 2000 Ultra started occasionally "shutting off" and once or twice was really hard to start when it got older and around 70,000 or so miles.
I suspected the MM EFI system (which I did have
problems with later on) but as it got worse I took it to the dealer and they discovered that it was the "kill switch" that was causing the problem.
Always check the simple, obvious things first.
Check your battery cables and make sure your battery is fully charged.
FWIW, I install a new battery in my bike every THIRD season.
Mine died for the first time last time out also. I was running 65 on the highway and it just quit. It caught me off guard, twist the throttle nothing, look to change lanes and it just came back on like it never happened. I haven't looked at mine but researched it some. Possibly,
Bad ground, loose battery terminals
Corroded terminals at the circuit breaker or breaker itself that was mentioned. There was a recall on it around '99-'03 or something.
A bad voltage regulator
Bad ignition switch, can clean or replace
Faulty bank angle sensor
All have caused a persons bike to just die and start back up from what I have found anyway.
