Default neutral indicator switch

On my 2010 883L International model, is a kickstand safety switch. Once in a while like when at a stop light, the neutral light doesnt show. Sometimes if I park the bike and stop the engine for a bit, and after 5-10 minutes it will not start. kickstand is up. I discovered that when I pull the clutch lever, it does start, even though the light is off and the bike is in neutral. Any idea´s what is causing this?

Yes - there are YouTube videos on this and one link here for you at the end of my message. The problem is there is s sidestand (jiffystand) sensor under the left hand side of the bike - (with someone holding up your bike look under your bike as you close the stand up and there is a flat piece of your stand that is supposed to close tight and remain in contact with a round magnetic sensor attached to the underside of the bike. It’s a black plastic covered round item with a metallic magnetic tip. The issue is the contact whilst riding can easily break and suddenly your electronic system throws a wobbly and cuts the engine.
Three solutions -
1. Slip a metallic magnetic washer on the sensor itself - the contact never breaks - this works really well and I use it - of course you should then remember to always check your sidestsnd is up yourself - something bikers have been managing just fine for vast number of years anyway.
2. Trace back from the sensor to the plug where it joins the loom and you can slip a 1k ohm resistor across two of the pins (middle and left I think). Again there is you tube link below.
3. Replace the sidestand spring - the new spring tension should fix it - until that one becomes weak too.

Hope this helps.

I bought this bike after the previous owner had died and the bike sat for 3 years. They told me he had put 20w-50 in the primary/trans. the first thing I did was change oil and put in regular HD tranny oil in. been having some clutch issues so I´ll just replace the clutch and see what happens
