first time dropping it...
I read this twice, and don't see what color the OP's bike is. If it's vivid black you have several options. How big and where is the ding? If it's big enough to need sanding you're going to need clear too.
1st time I dropped mine, the wife was on her maiden voyage riding on the back. At an intersection no less. The 2nd time I was prospecting with my MC and meeting up with another club at a bar. Swung in to the parking lot and turned to the right to back into a parking spot. Lightly touched the front brake mid-turn and down she went, in front of the P & Sgt at Arms of the other MC. After a good laugh at my expense, they came helped me get her back up. Pride/ego damaged but fortunately no dings to the bike. She came down onto the highway pegs each time. $#!% happens....
If you're lucky, OP, it IS vivid black, and in that case, just trot you down to the local auto parts store and get you a bottle of any glossy black...for small damage...if it's bigger than a small area, then that opens up another bag of worms, like this gent says...
Must've gone over all the way (I assume it's a touring bike with engine guards) to damage the levers.
I've dropped mine twice and am happy to say that the engine guards and added saddle bag guards saved my baby.
In case you didn't know...avoid taking these heavy bikes on gravel...both my drops were in gravel parking lots.
