Default Wiring accessory switch

I purchased an accessory switch to fit in nacelle for my accent led lights. I wanted to have a separate switch to turn on leds without lighting up the dash lights.
I tried wiring one to battery pos and one to bat neg and other wire to leds pos, and led neg to bat neg. No matter which way I try to connect wires the switch light will always be on. I dont want the switch light to be on constant as there will be a constant draw on battery.
Am I doing something wrong here?
How can I wire this so power is off completely until I turn the switch on?
Appreciate any help getting this figured out.

not quite sure if I understand.

the lighted switch should be off if you wire the switch to batt+...then to the led +....then the led - to batt -.

the switch may light up when switched on, but will be off when switched off ( unless it is getting ground through the chassis)

( and there should be a fuse between the batt+ and the switch to keep your bike from burning down)

does this make sense with what you have?

btw if you have not yet installed the switch, if you have midframe deflectors, that can be a dandy place to mount a low profile switch. easy wiring and out of the way. left side is better.

Thanks Mike. That makes sense, Im going to have to try again because I think the switch might have been bad. I had mock wired up to switch and battery and the switch was lit in off position. When I turned switch on leds lit up. Turn switch off leds where off, but the switch light itself stayed on.
Got to be a way to cut all power to switch when in off position. Ill double try again tonight and post back.

Still cant get this to work right. Im using a test battery for pos and neg power and stil get constant power to light the switch whether in on or off position. I think I need to splice the pos wire into the ignition hot wire. So when ignition is off I have no power to light up the switch until I flip it on.
Hope that makes sense. Am I on the right track with that thinking?
