2014 street glide
Has anyone had problems with the saddle bags coming loose while riding? My brother lost the left on this weekend and a few other guys claim it has happened to them also! Let me know if this is something to get looked at the dealership.

I have heard of this happening a few times. So far, the common theme seems to be that the owner had removed the bag and when they reinstalled it they didn't have the rubber washer on the twist retainer. This washer actually compresses a bit when you lock that twist retainer in place and without that washer there is just enough play that the bag will vibrate the twist retainer back out and there goes the bag skipping down the road.

Your local home depot is a source for an easy preventative fix for under $10
Crown Bolt #43228 speed nut (SMS type U 5/16-18 thread )
Crown Bolt #66808 wing bolt ( 5/16-18 thread X 1" ) if you don't want a wing bolt, then use a bolt
a couple of rubber fender washers too, or reuse the stock ones
if theft is prime mover, replace the 1/4" bolt of the FRONT saddlebag mount with a button head type which cannot easily be turned out with visegrips ( on the rt in pic)
I am using one of these each side, with the dzus fastener for ease and speed.
I have had the dzus back out on washboard roads, so the 1 bolt gives some security for that

Good call on that^^^. I missed that one. I did change out the detachable docking point mount bolts and the bolts on the detachable passenger backrest and luggage rack to stainless buttonhead torx security bolts.

On mine there is a rubber grommet through the bag, a steel washer and the twist lock pin. Usually when I pull mine the steel washer will stay stuck to the rubber grommet, but can fall off after moving the bag around. I've put the pin in without the washer, but noticed the lack of resistance when I turned it into place and quickly realized my mistake. I can easily see how someone could drop a washer off, and put the bags back on incorrectly allowing the pins to vibrate off and the bags to go bouncing down the highway.
I would think after enough time and use the rubber might even degrade enough where you could loose the springy qualities that locks the pin in place.
