Local dealer has this for sale. Seems like a great price. What do you guys think? What do I need to look out for on a 2005? 31,000 miles. Oh yeah....price is $9499.00.
I basically have the same machine, but a 2006. Mine had 6K on the clock when I purchased it privately for $13K back in August of 2013. If you like the bike, walk in with a stack of $100's and offer $9K out the door. This does not apply when the weather breaks in 4 weeks.
On any used bike, a set of tires and a new battery can set you back over $800 (or so). Be sure the tire treads look good and check the sidewalls for cracking.
Other than that, see if you can check any service records for cam chain tensioner replacement. I've talked to people that have had tensioners go out at 25,000 miles and if they do break apart it can cost you a new/rebuilt engine.
The '05 will give you ten's of thousands more good touring miles w/o an issue.
Like others above have said though, check for the cam chain tensioner service,
i did mine @ 47k and it cost about a grand to have the dealer do it.
.... and i like Howitzer's idea of walking in w/a stack of Benjamins and offering a little less for cash, while it's still snowin'
Bought my 05 Flhtcui August of last year. paid a bit more with 30k.
mine has more Chrome...but great shape. New tires, SE pipes and se stg 1 AC.
that's a great price, picked mine up in metro Detroit.
Thanks guys. I haven't seen the bike in person. Just on the website. I'm gonna go check it out in person this weekend. It's supposed to be -17 degrees here tonight, so I don't think it's going anywhere. Price actually seems low for this area. Local dealer has a 2004 with 24,000 miles for $12,999, and a 2007 with 54,000 miles for $13,500. $9499 seemed low to me.
I've got one, and I bought it with just over 50k on the clock. I paid $9200 for it. I haven't had any problems at all, except for a voltage regulator that went out on me. Just had the chain tensioners inspected, and less than 10% have worn on them. I'm happy with my purchase and I'm sure you will be too.
