+1 on this
I tried milking every last start out of my battery.
Swapped the battery out and within a month had to replace the stator

Plus side was it gave me an good excuse to get a few new tools

It's expensive, but I now look at replacing the battery as a maintenance item

Even if the battery shows good voltage after a charge, it can still be going bad. I just replaced my stock battery (2 years 9 months old) because it was turning over the engine slower and slower when fully charged. Voltages showed no problems. Load test failed.
