I notice lots of people criticize the stock catless OEM head pipe. I think it's because everyone thinks that HD designed it so it must be crap, and because of a certain amount of forum brainwashing when it comes to each forums favorite vendors.

I had a Fullsac "b" headpipe when I had some engine work done. My builder had me get rid of it, and replaced it with a ceramic coated stock catless headpipe. He said the collector was too small on the Fullsac, and would act as a choke point. You don't have to look too hard to see that yes, it is very small compared to the stock headpipe. I've heard other actual builders on these forums say the stock headpipe is a good performer.

I ended up getting better performance and torque with the stock pipe. My bike is a 110 with re-degree'd stock SE255 cam along with headwork/throttle body porting, so YMMV depending on your engine.

To the OP, I'd look into a 107 build if I were you, and take the builder's recommendations on what exhaust works best with that particular build. Unless of course you want to upgrade to an S&S or SE120.

When you get into engines that have compression, big cams, head porting your stock pipe will no longer perform. On a 110 engine like yours a good tune will get a lot of performance gain.

The element of surprise is sooo great. Especially on a stock looking bike that will blow past a bigger motor.
