I have a 2014 street glide special and have never changed suspension in a bike. I'm looking to do the front end suspension but cant decide. Harley davidson or progressive suspension?
i plan on putting stock size rims on the bike because i enjoy the ride and stance. Look forward to your comments
Unless you're planning to lower the front end or you are a curve carver type rider...
When I had my chrome front in installed before I picked the bike up, I had the dealer put in the heavier SE folk oil instead of the standard oil. For me it tightened up the front end without needing new springs. Ive use the SE oil in previous bikes as well for the same reasons.
You have a range of options. Your bike currently has one-size-fits-all fork springs and very basic damping.
Especially if you are either heavy or light in weight you can improve life by simply installing single-rate springs, matched to your weight, from Race Tech or others.
You can also add to the above a damping device such as Emulators or Intiminators, to improve damping control, both of which claim to improve ride quality.
An alternative is to install cartridge inserts, which replace your current springs and damping. These are like long thin shocks that are installed inside your forks and are available from Progressive, Traxxion and Ohlins, perhaps others.
The price goes up with each of the above steps! Of those the Ohlins cartridges are fully adjustable for both springs and damping, but not cheap! They will probably give far the best upgrade in ride quality.
The 2014+ are a huge improvement over all previous years so you might get by with just a spring and oil upgrade. More than that then personally I'd be putting on the Ricor Intimators??, lot of bang for the buck... If money not an object or you just want the best then the Ohlins.
Wouldn't waste my time on either the SE or Progressive

First off, you will definitely want to weight the responses you receive by whether or not they have actually tried the solutions they're suggesting. I would also suggest posting this to the Rushmore section. I don't have a 2014 but am running heavier SE fluid. Not a complete fix but decent bang for the buck. Plenty of folks have been happy with Progressive monotubes, I wouldn't rule them out without further research.
