So last night I was changing my trans covers to the new black ones I got. I bought a Drag Specialties black chrome bolt kit. A couple new bolts were a little tough starting. I chased the ends with a die. Started easier seemed to go in fine. I did the side cover first and installed my new longer clutch cable. Them on to the top cover. Same deal little stubborn starting. Chased the ends with a die. Ran a tap in the holes to clean out the factory thread locker. I was making sure the bolts would go in fairly easy. As I started backing one out it got tight to turn. I stopped. Ran it in a little, started to back it out. In, out, in, out, in, out, in, SNAP!! A lot of cursing. I was so pissed!! I stopped for the night. I did enough damage. My friend is a machinist. He's gonna see if he can extract it for me. Those bolts are junk IMHO. I removed them all and contacted the folks I bought then through. I sure hope they give me some money back. I'm sure it's my problem now though. Needed to vent.
Ouch! That sucks. I hope your friend can get the broke one out ok. I feel your pain. Sorry I don't have any words of wisdom for you. Let us know how it turns out.
I know the feeling. I'll tell you exactly what the problem is.
Coated or chromed fasteners need to have the threads cleaned with a dye right to the very top. The reason you got stuck coming out was that you were past the clean threads and you jammed the plating material between the threads. My lesson was learned on something easily removed from the bike so I could fix it on the bench. Hopefully your friend can fix yours on the bike without too much difficulty.
