I just replaced my front and rear pads on my 2013 FLHTC at 23k. Using Hawk sintered pads bought from J&P.
I just put it on the lift and had at it, the calipers were pushed back with no ill effects or problems.
Reinstalled calipers and pumped them up.
Then I bought new DOT4 SYN and changed the stuff out. No problem with a mighty vac. Do wrap everything good as with all things there will be some escape,
'Murphys" law will prevail.

So if I do not remove the reservoir lid and begin to compress the pistons back-in, it won't cause any issues as the reservoir begins to refill from the fluid in the lines?
When pads were new, and master cylinder full, as the pads wear, the pistons push out, resulting in level in MS going down.. There is a rubber membrane underneath the cap. Pushing the pistons in, will raise the level of fluid back up. Never fill the MS when you have worn pads unless you push the pads apart first. Shouldn't have to remove cap.
