I believe if you go 12" or higher you need new cables. I had to add new ones when I installed 16's on my Classic.

BB59 is right. I have the same steed and year as you. I went with Wildone 515 bars which are 10" raise. Do it right. You we need the replace the clutch and brake cables and for the wires go with over size not just long enough, just in case in the future you want to go higher, plus there is plenty of room inside the light were all the wires will rest in place. I went with Magnum for my clutch and brake lines and Namz for the wires.
That's the delema i face. I want to go with 14 but might want to go 16. I slapped a set of 20inch on the other day my buddy had laying around and sat on the bike in the garage. That was just not me they looked ridiculous and I know my arms would be beat on Long hauls. I have a set of 16 on my panhead and I like how it makes me sit on the bike
