Default Rust removal...

I am getting antsy as the time approaches for mid tour leave…although I am a bit bummed, my daughter tells me that there is rust on my rims and a bit on my mufflers…what gives? It is parked in the garage…is this common or a result of poor chroming techniques? Once I get back how do I carefully remove the rust without causing further damage?

I've never had a problem using a "WET" SOS pad on the chrome. Just make certain it's plenty wet and you'll get rid of that rust and shine it up all pretty like

Don't use anything abrasive on it. FLITZ metal polish and a microfiber cloth along with a little quality time will remove the rust, make it look great and leave a protective coating on it for a while. It's not poor chroming, it's usually temperature changes and condensation occuring over and over again that leads to the rusting in the garage.

Only thing I can say, I wish I lived a little closer to you. Then, when you get home, all you would need to do is visit with the family and ride! I think local fellow riders would appreciate the job you.re doing. On your question. I have used Metal prep on a rag to remove rust on Street Rod parts. It will disolve the rust and and you wash if off with water, then wax. No rubbing the little particles of rust on the rest of it. Park it on a sheet of plastic when you leave. It cant hurt. I'm not sure that you can still get this or not, but, I used to use Dupoint #7 to remove rust. Works wonders. Flitz polish also works good, just take your time and enjoy being back home with the family.
