I have a 2001 Ultra Classic with the digital Odometer. I blew up the twin cam engineand I have a brand new engine coming direct from Harley. I have 136000 on the bike. When I get the new engine, it will be off by that much. I would like to reset it to 0. Anybody know how or if it is even possible?
The Feds wont let you. Its punishable by life in prison. Burt seriously there are laws against that because the mileage is for the bike not the motor, unless when you sell it you disclose that miles where reset at that mileage. you would by the way have to buy a new speedo and specify that you want it at 0 miles. Only the MoCo can set them.
one of my digits blew up on my odometer and covered under my warranty. When I picked up my bike the odometer was set at 0 . The bike had 8000mileson it. when it was changed. Now 36000 on it now . The bike is a 98.

I'm very surprised by this.
I worked at GM approximately 10-years ago writing service manuals for Camaro/Firebird/Corvette (troubleshooting manuals used by the techs at the dealerships). At the time, the dealer had no way of setting mileage on site. If an instrument cluster needed to be replaced for any reason, it had to be sent out. Once the company received the old cluster from the dealer they would read the mileage from it and set the new cluster to the same mileage before shipping it to the dealer for installation, to ensure that the vehicle mileage was accurate. The problem was that a customer would have to wait for the cluster to be shipped out, and the new one to be shipped back, even for something as simple as a burned out LED. The dealers may now have a tool to set the clusters.
Apparently the HD MoCo doesn't take the mileage issue very seriously, which I would think to have legal implications.

You can find one on ebay with little or no miles on it.
I bought a new HD combo speedo / tach from M&M. Because they are discounters the speedos come with 0 miles. I thought about sending it here http://www.bluegauges.com/mileages.htm but I just took a photo of my old speedo to show a buyer if I ever sell. I will also make a written disclosure. Be carefull buying used bikes.
