Fuel sending unit.
The only alternative is going to be a salvage part perhaps.
Its been broke for years but my better half mentioned the other day that if she was ever going to ride this bike it had better work!
I have no problem fixing the little things if it leads to another bike for the garage!
"Fixed my Fuel gauge issue\sending unit
I hope!
I have been having an issue for some time now where my fuel gauge would be inaccurately low, lately showing completely low most of the time. I had it apart a while ago and didn't see anything obviously wrong and seemed to work just fine when I had it out. So last week I thought I would take a meter to it to see if it was the gauge or sending unit. Neither are cheap and I thought it could make a good Xmas gift idea for someone.
I was testing it and I could see an big voltage change with a little wiggle of the float arm. In looking real close I could see in the sending unit the little "feelers" that make contact with the "resistor pad" not making contact all the time. I removed the little lock washer holding the float arm and removed it to get at the feelers. I just bent the feelers up more and cleaned the "resistor pad"
It's been working great now after a couple of refills. Hopefully this "fix" will last. A new sending unit retails at $140.
I hope this is understandable and helpful. I had researched and didn't find any similar "fixes".
I should have taken pictures, but here is what mine looks like (part number 75062-01):"
