I have a 04 ultra classic. I am wanting to put a newer 103 ci motor in it. What would be the newest year that would bolt up without having to change mounts or wiring and such. Thanks for any help.
None of the factory 103's are going to fit without some changes.
The change to the 96" motor brought with it the 6 speed trans which won't bolt to the 88" motors and since the 103's are based on the 96...
I think your best option would be to have your existing 88" built.
You have a better bottom end than the newer motors already and with some new jugs and pistons and some head work you could have anywhere from 95 to 98" that will run away from a stock 103.
Just my 2 cents.
Yes, I think your best option for results and cost will be rebuilding your own motor with a known, proven kit or performance package from S&S, fuelmoto or others.
this also retains your motor number and VIN matching- which is good.
My motor has had the big bore kit stage 3 heads bigger gear drive cams. I just can't get past all the noises. And worried about the dependability of it... Not really looking for the fastest bike just want a dependable cruiser. I don't have much money in the bike that's why I was thinking of just putting in a stock motor.... thanks for all your input guys
