what makes doing ape hangers with ABS difficult. I read somewhere that the dealer has a specific test or machine they use to bleed the ABS brakes. I have some apes that I want to install and a buddy that has helped me do a set prior on non abs bike won't touch this
It's somewhat of a longer process. You'll need to run a brake line to the box under the seat. But it's not difficult. I've done 2 without issues.
Unthinkingly can bleed them you're if you don't turn the bike on before doing so or something along those lines. I'm sure someone will chile in and correct me on that.
Do the install like a bike w/o abs, for an abs bike you must NEVER cycle the switch and let the system turn on. If you do, your screwed and will need to see the dealer so the digital technition can bleed the system
I usually pull the main fuse to be absolutely certain nothing comes on accidentally
Then once all is done bleed the brakes without power till they are firm.
Once that happens, i make certain the switch is off, reinstall the main fuse and then cut the bike on. Have done several sets this way no problems
Best advice, do not get in a hurry. Be slow and through
So how did it come out? I'm about to do a bar swap on my son's 2014 street glide....and I was just iffy about all the ABS stuff... changing clutch/brake lines to steel braided. .. feed back would be appreciated
Thanks
