You are probably right. Since I am now 63 years old however, I also wondering if going higher than shoulder height would stress my arms in any way on road trips? If I was sure the 17's would be comfortable, I would go with them. I guess what I need is to talk with someone who has installed 17's (or at least 16's)

Keep in mind that above the shoulder isn't legal in some states if you're touring for retirement.....

I've heard if you have issues with poor circulation in your hands you wont like the ape hangers.

Some do some don't , I went above my shoulders my hands didn't like it. I am level with my shoulders now with 14" Mayhems and have no complaints at all.
They key to bars is measuring several times and order bars according to your measurements. I find that closing your eyes , have a friend help. While sitting on the bike stick your hands out and have your friend measure the height , pullback ,and width of your hands. Do this several times for consistent numbers.

I would like to go up yonder () with my bars but I also like to keep my hands
behind the batwing. A fun around town second bike use to be on my list but the
older I get I think I'll blow that off till my next life and just keep ride my dresser.
