Default Tour Pak Detachable Mount Dimensions?

I bought a third-party detachable tour pak mount for my 2011 Road King Classic and the mount appears to be too wide to fit in the 4-point docking piece. The manufacturer is labeling it as fitting 09-13, but I am not convinced.

Here is an image gallery of it when I put the mount on the bike showing how wide it is and it not fitting: http://imgur.com/a/ucync

The reseller is working with me and I am trying to discover if it is indeed too wide or if this particular tour pak mount is made for the newer bikes since they have different part numbers.

Could somebody measure the dimensions (particularly the width) of the tour pak mount from an 09-13 bike and a 14+ bike?

Thanks in advance guys!

I just got my non harley mount yesterday. I had to push the sides together to get the proper bend to fit in the docking station. Not that difficult

I tried bending mine as well, but the steel is way too thick to allow the half inch or so of flexibility needed to get it in there. That's why I am thinking that maybe the 14+ models are a little bit wider back there that these fit in and not in the 09-13 models.

Did you get this one?

09-16 docking hardwear are all the same width/geomitery.

I believe that Tour Pak forward mount slides onto the shock towers and the locking part uses the two forward docking posts.

Then why the different part numbers for the 2014 and up? Just wondering.

Thought that too and tried, it's too short to fit in the same spot as the sissy bar. It was pretty close, but not long enough just like trying to put the two up luggage rack on the front instead of the back...don't ask me how I know this

Only place it would fit was on the back where a luggage rack would go.

My fabricator neighbor is coming over tonight to look at it, he said he might be able to use a grinder to narrow it and re-weld it to make it fit properly when I talked to him at lunch today. Sure as hell beats paying the $70 + tax difference to Harley for this piece.

If you are referring to the part that attaches to the bottom of the tourpak, the part #s are different because the tourpaks are different.

The two up rack mounts to the 4 posts of the docking hardware mounted to the bike. The solo rack mounts to the shock mount and the forward posts of the docking hardware.

The HD instructions say "gentle squeezing" may be required. If you mount one side and the other side is off by 1/2 inch, then both sides need to be squeezed 1/4 inch otherwise will be off center.

Mount the front posts, then squeezing both sides toward each other try to mount the rear posts.

As I stated previously in another reply the steel is too thick to flex that far so it won't bend enough to fit in there. That's why I am asking for dimensions so I can tell the reseller whether these people manufactured it to the wrong dimensions or not.

When you buy docking hardwear new it comes with spacers/washers for this exact reason. Just go to the hardware store and get some chrome washers and space out your docking points so it will work. The Home Depot here has all kinds of chrome spacers, washers, and bolts and the prices aren't bad.
