Default A technical security system question

A technical security system question. In 2012 my girlfriend purchased a 2012 Street Glide. It did not have a security system installed, but she had the dealer add it. She does not remember if she ever saw the key light blink. A few days ago she came to me and said that she had gone for a ride and forgot the key fob at home. The motorcycle started just fine and she never had to do anything special or enter a security codes, she just hit the starter and went riding. I looked into the situation and found the following. It did start with no fob close. When I looked into the manual over ride I found that there were only ------ in the odometer window, no numbers. I put in an new owner 5 digit code and it still started by just hitting start. After researching, I found out that the dealer must marry the alarm to the ecu which I now understand.
So one of my questions is, if the alarm system fails how does it fail? Will it always fail so that the motorcycle will not start? Can the alarm system ever fail and still start the motorcycle? If it can never start in the failure mode, can I make the assumption that the dealer installed the alarm and never married it to the ecu? If so, it off to the dealer next spring to get a complementary marriage (for the motorcycle)!

Sounds to me like the dealer may never have installed it, or if they did then they didn't program the FOB's to it. There are two modules that are used on these bikes, The TSM (turn signal module) and the TSSM (turn signal security module). They both use the same plug when plugged into the bike however the TSSM has an additional plug for an antenna that plugs into it (at least mine did, yours may differ). http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...12-6820007a--1 You could take a look at the installation instructions for her particular model then determine the location of the module on her bike and see if they even installed it. http://www.harley-davidson.com/app-c...ts/-J04082.PDF Once installed it can be programmed to the bikes ECM using these instructions https://app.box.com/s/a01de215ed6080294da4 and the bike will start and run fine without the fob being present, however for the security system to work the bike and FOB's need to be taken to the dealer to program the FOB's to the bike. Usually it's my understanding that if the TSSM goes bad there's other problems that show up such as the turn signals acting funny or one or both not working. I'm thinking if everything else on the bike is working correctly the TSSM might be good, when and if they installed it they may have just forgot to program the FOB's to the TSSM. I'd suggest she take it back to the dealer and question them about the install, and maybe hook it up to their computer to make sure the FOB's are programmed correctly.

This sounds like the ESP i bought on my very first HD back in 97. Being my first - never gave it much thought till about 6 months later - getting ready for a trip, looked for paperwork? Called esp people - nope, nothing on file, pissed, called the dealer - gee, i thought i did that? Old HD in Merced, CA - ge lost his dealership soon after that due to several other 'like' issue
Hope yours is not simular
