The manual button to push the solenoid is fine for trigger circuit failure but once the solenoid contacts are shot, the manual button has no better chance to activate the starter than the start button does.

Of course / like you - Iam not there - but I will make tou a friendly wager
You must have missed my 3rd sentence in post 11. But at 19,000 miles, I would not think this is the problem unless you are like some people who do not stay on starter until it's running.
I have rebuilt 6 solenoids but they were at much higher miles and they also needed the mica cut in the starter commentator.
This is not a competition to me. I am glad if you are correct if it fixes cajun's bike for him.

Update............ You guys will not believe this. I went to the dealer and got a starter relay. Pulled the seat off, checked everything again and no go. Still clicks. Its about 530 pm eastern time here and dark already. When I turned the ignition to on to try it I notice the dash light on the speedo went out and an little engine light came on. Wont start, just a click. I moved the ignition a tiny bit and dash light came on and the bike starts. If I turn the ignition all the way till it stops the bike wont start, move it back 1 16th of and inch and dash lights come on and it starts every time. The little engine light stays on though and not sure what that is about but if I wiggle ever so slightly the ignition switch that engine light goes off as well. So I guess I know where to look now. What will a switch cost me or is there some kind of adjustment for it?

$94

http://www.boardtrackerharleyonline....itch-71313-96a

Its number 23 in the pic on this page: http://www.granitestateharleystore.c...03B%5cT65%5cFD

I've had this happen before on several bikes, they wont start unless the switch was in the exact right position. Knowing that, I'd just move the switch a bit when it happened, no BFD.

Cool, the old wiggle fix. The tumbler pins for the lock somehow got up thru the slot for the key hole and one came out from mine. Next thing, it was doing similar as to yours except it was obvious since the switch was rough and you could look down and see a pin sideways. I just worked the rest of the pins out since I have an alarm. Yours looks just like mine and can be gotten apart from the bottom side also. You need to add your model designation to your signature There is a version on a King that has couple cam rings that the extension from the lock extension rod come off. Could be something broke. You're just going to have to pull it out. Good chance, it may just not be the switch with all that extra stuff making the actual switch work.
