Can fellow Street Gliders tell me how you cope with the stiff ride from your SG's?
When my SG was fairly new I changed the shocks, installing a pair I purchased on ebay that came off an '05 Ultra. Very plush ride but lost some handling ability.
I've been experiencing a little wobble when hit with a crosswind, the dealer checked everything and said there were no problems so I figured I'd reinstall the stock SG shocks figuring that just maybe, one of the shocks from the ultra were defective.
Well even though the bike handles soo much better with the SG shocks, the reason I changed them became instantly apparent; thought my vertabra was compressing when going over certain types of bumps at 4th and 5th gear speeds. I'm running with 8lbs of air. Do other experience this hard ride or am I becoming a wimp in my older age? How may lbs of air do most ride with? Is it possible to stop that bone jarring thud that happens every so often?
I do know where you are coming from after riding a friends Ultra this past weekend (As my wife also made the comment). I never knew the difference was that much. Also interested to see what post follow.
This my question too! I've noticed the bone jarring jolts a lot more lately and was wondering if I've lostsomeair pressure in the shocks. I'm running the stockair shocks, but have no idea how much pressure I have in them. (Still need to get the HD air pump.)
Put some more air in your shocks. Eight pounds seams too low to me. I've had a 04 Road King Custom with the same shock as my new SG has and I'm 235 and my wife is 130 pounds. Never had a problem but I kept my shocks at 30#. Also make sure your tire pressure is correct. That can make a big difference.
In fact a friend of mine had a 05 Road King Classic that he crashed and burned last fall in the Smokey Mountains and when he purchased a new 07 Road King Custom he had them install the SG shocks. He says the ride is much better with the lowered shocks.
The ride on my SG is okay 'til I hit a bump. I've been toying with 12" (stock length) Progressive 440's, but wonder if there might be a better and maybe cheaper option. I had a '96 RK with a White Bros. lowering kit, and with the 13" shocks they claimed the suspension travel was unchanged. That bike, which had a riding height about the same as my SG, rode much better.
So, I'm thinking about buying some 13" stock FLH air shocks on Ebay, then add the lowering kit, and sell my 12" low-profile shocks. Or, buy Progressive 440 13" and do the same. I tried to call Progressive on this idea today but it was too late, so will try tomorrow.
Has anyone tried either 13" shocks (stock or aftermarket) with the lowering kit?

That's not a bad idea to save a few bucks, I have tried a few different lowering kits & the So-Low is probably the best one available.
Those lowered air shocks are bone jarring, I know because my bike came with them. I replaced those awful shocks with 12" standard spring Progressive 440's for a couple years & that improved the ride 100%(I sold the old shocks on ebay for $225)
I am now running Platinum "Bleed & Feed" air shocks & the ride is awesome.
