I'm thinking of installing a S&S 124 in a new Road Glide. Each year I go on several trips, 5-7K miles per trip, and put around 15-20K miles on per year. I was interested in others with touring bikes who have installed the S&S 124 and was wondering:
1) have you had any mechanical issues?
2) how is the S&S 124 for touring?
3) how many miles do you currently have on your engine?
4) anything else you can add?
I'm aware of the S&S 124 LC but am not considering it.
Why are you not interested in the 124-LC? With that many road miles I would be concerned about winding up in the middle of nowhere at a station with only 87 octane.
Good question I will be keeping a close eye on this thread. I have a RGS and have been looking for info on that 124 as well. I wanna know who has 1 and how reliable is it and can it handle a weekend 2k mile trip the same as a stock motor.....

I originally asked my mechanic, an authorized S&S dealer, about the LC and he recommends against it stating for the performance they put out he could build my motor for half the cost. I asked about poor octane gas across the country while traveling and he said I won't have any problems, that some of the worst gas is here in California. He said he has never installed the LC because of the big difference in performance between the two. I figure if I'm going to spend that much money for a new motor why not get the most performance out of it.
A friend of mine has had the lc for some time now. He has almost 6k on it now and it seems to be just as reliable as our stock motors if not more reliable. I guess only time will tell unless someone has more info. I myself wanted to swap out my 103 for the 124lc as well.
I think the LC would be a good motor for a touring platform. Plenty of power in my 124LC. 10k on mine with no issues other than finding the weak links in my drive train.
I too am interested I am thinking about the fuel moto outlaw engine same thing, if I am easy on it can I do 100k Like a stock motor. I would assume so. Looking for people's experience with these size motors
