spray the little critters well with pledge and then wipe off with a micro-fiber rag.
Thanks will try that tonight.. assume you need to let it soak in for a while or wiping off with micro-fiber rag will scratch the fairing. When you spray, doesn't it run?

I made the same mistake with RainX on my fatboy windshield. Since then I The Bom or any similar product and a microfiber cloth. I even carry a small bottle of the Bom in my windshield pouch and a cloth on all my rides. My buddies give me crap for cleaining my shield all the time, but I've got the cleanest and clearest shield of the bunch....lol

i just get a good amount on the bugs. usually only have to wait a little bit, then wipe them right off. no scratches and it does leave a bit of wax on the fairing/tank or windshield that helps to keep the bugs from sticking as much next time. Probably lots of exotic, expensive stuff out there that will do the same thing, but have used lemon pledge forever on the bikes and it always works great.

Hose down. Using CLEAN (wash this part first) sheepskin mit soaked in car-wash soap dissolved in warm water, wash the windshield inside and out. Rinse off with clean water, let drip dry for a moment and dry off with a clean towel (like an old bath towel, but a clean one). And yes, you can wax all of it and polish off the dried wax with a cleam terry-cloth (they're yellow out here) towel. Don't forget to wash and wax the rest of your bike - especially the rims. The wheels create a corrosion-magnet and must be waxed. That's why your owner's manual recommends frequent waxing of the wheels. I can look at any mag-wheel FLH and see right away the kind of care it received by how much corrosion is on the wheels, and my 6-year-old FLHR has none.

Great info on this thread.

So what are you guys waxing the wheels with?
you don't wax with the same stuff you wax the rest of the bike with do you?

THANKS for the help.

Zymol - the same wax I use on the rest of my bike.
The only other cleaners I use (beside good ol' Wal Mart-bought car wash concentrate) are the S100 wrinkle-black highlighter, ArmorAll for the pegs, grips and seats and Dupont Teflon Tire Dressing for my wheels. I do use a distilled-water spray on my painted surfaces after waxing to add depth and shine.

For those of you who keep calling it Plexiglas it is NOT. Plexiglas is Acrylic, your windshield is polycarbonate. It is a totally different kind of plastic and different chemicals will affect it differently. I know it is probably all the same to you but when asking for advise on what will damage it you need to call it Polycarbonate (or Lexan is a popular brand of Polycarbonate). There is a HUGE difference.

After reading this thread I soaked a towel in hot water and laid it on my lovebug encrusted windshield, damn things came off like butter.
It works great and it's free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I do the same thing with my front fairing turn signals and fender. Easy as pie! Put hot wet towl on, Open beer, take a few drinks, walk over turn tunes on, sing a song, remove towels.....Wipe off with "clean towels or microfiber." Four years and not a single scratch. Did I mention it's free?
