Start bike, gauge shows about 10-11 volts. Ride away, needle stays steady, check engine light, battery light comes on. After a few minutes the needle will jump to 14 and warning lights go out. Ive verified with a meter that voltage jumps (to rule out amp gauge) Code is battery low voltage.
2007 Road Glide 75,000 miles. Stator was replaced with SE compensator a couple months ago because this issue was present then. Ive cleaned connections at battery, negatives bolted to frame under seat, positive at starter, connections in and out of voltage regulator.
Could this be the voltage regulator? Happens randomly but getting more frequent.
Could definitely be your regulator. Most guys change regulator when they change the stator. Also, how old is your battery? Bad regulator or altenator could damage battery or a bad battery could damage your charging system.
Sounds like battery is loosing its charge, between rides. How long is it sitting between rides? If voltage jumps up after a few minutes, seems like charging system is working OK. Try fully trickle charging battery, test for full voltage.
As others have said, regulator could be overcharging and has cooked the battery. Test battery and regulator.
you did some good basic work- did you also check the regulator grounds ( mounts)- also do a hands on check of the wiring from the reg to battery- feel for rub throughs on the frame.
as suggested above- do pull your battery, bench charge and load test ...if it is duff it can place a heavy load on the charging system.
here's a pic of my neighbors old battery cable...rotted- long story short he spent over $1300 at the dealer replacing parts...meanwhile a $12 cable was the fix

Update...replaced the voltage regulator and issue seems to be resolved. Some checking in the rubber compound in the base of the VR but dont know if its related.
