Does anyone know what this is? I've been trying to repair some electronics on my bike, and I found this hanging loose. I can't figure out what it needs to connect to, if anything.
It looks like a touring bike and it looks like it's in front of the battery, that is the Harley B+ connector. You can connect a 12v accessory to it, it is always hot.
On many models ( perhaps all) the B+ does not have a fuse on it excepting the 40Amp maxifuse- consult the wiring diagram.
if you use this add a fuse- a wiring fault on this circuit can kill your bike dead on the road if it blows the maxifuse ( & who carries a maxifuse?)
This same circuit provides power to other things such as:
ECM
abs
Lighting
ign switch.
the purge solenoid circuit also provides power to the fuel injectors and ignition coil...a wiring fault here or voltage drop due to wiring in lights or an amp can cause real driving problems.

Mike,
I carry a maxi fuse and a side stand spring. Hard lessons make us prepared

My spare maxifuse is resetable (don't ask I don't remember where I got it. but it was free) and fits nicely next to my spare saddle bag hardware and side stand spring. I have loaned the side stand spring twice.
