I got a set of 6.5 adapters off eBay for 12 or 13 bucks shipped. Installed JL audio 6.5 speakers. Decided against an amp, for now. System is pretty good now, as is. JL rocks.

Cozz,if it not too much trouble could you provide a link to the speckers you bought or pt#?
I ask that because i was considering just trying a higher quality set of speakers for front (& rear of bike for wife) that could later handle an amp upgrade if need be .
That way i could to see if just upgrading the speakers gives enough improvement @ a bit higher volume & still be clean/clear without distortion to avoid the added expense of going with an amp at this time if it's not needed.
For my type use i have no need to blow people away with an excessively loud stereo on my bike that thanks to the wife is quiet again after i re-installed the stock quiet mufflers/pipes because anything over stock is too loud for the wife & she doesnt want to be bothered with earplugs, been there done that!/UMPH!).
I still have the box. I'll post it tomorrow. I had the same plan as you, upgrading the speakers first before deciding on an amp. As it turns out, I don't think I need the amp. It's plenty loud.
