I've been having a issue with my apes for about a few month, they keep getting loose and seems to be getting worse so this weekend am going to try the bear can trick to see how it works out..but I have a few questions...
2012 street glide
1- Whats the torque spec for the 4 bolt clamp.
2- do you tighten the front ones towards the light first or the ones toward the tank first.
A- did you change from the two piece clamp to the one piece clamp?? If no, find a cheap one and change it out.
B- if you did and they are still moving, Yaffe makes a clamp with a set screw, it will never move again
Tighten on a diagonal pattern. First snug then go around again and make them tight.
I would change your bushings out to polyurethane bushings while you've got it apart. That will help insure no movement. My 16's moved all over the place until I changed the bushings. Good luck!!
Just did mine a month ago. Followed instructions from my 2012 Ultra Classic Service Manual as follows. No movement.
- Tighten Handle bar clamp front screws until upper and lower handlebar clamps make contact.
- Tighten clamp rear screws to 16-20 ft-lbs
- Tighten clamp front screws to 16-2- ft-lbs
yes is a single clamp and has the upgraded bushings. I was going to try the bear can trick but I think am just going to order the paul yaff clamp with the set screws... thanks
Take the clamp off, use a small punch and hammer to make several marks on the inside of the clamp and even some on the handle bar. Most likely the checkering on your bars is to smooth after they were chromed or painted.
