There is no such thing as "Harley-Davidson tires".

There are just Michelin or Dunlop tires with the words "Harley-Davidson" molded on the sidewalls.

Yeah, like everyone knows that. But if they don't say Harley Davidson on the sidewall they aren't going on my bike.

No problem. Your bike, your call.

I started putting Harley branded tires on my metric bikes years ago. I'd put regular Dunlops, Bridgestones, Michelins, and Metzlers and the most I got confidently was about 10k to 12k miles. But the Harley's always went over 20k. They've got to be made to a different standard, I can think of no other way to explain it.

I think the most logical explanation would be that average metrics weigh hundreds of pounds less than the average Harley.

The Harley-Davidson branded Michelin Scorcher 31's on my '14 Super Glide Custom were shot at 13k.

There are many Harley owners who routinely had bald rear tires at less than 10k. Many, many riders were routinely changing rear tires at 7k. One of my regular riding buddies has never seen 8k on his standard Harley tires on his Dyna.

There are, to the best of my knowledge, over the last decade or two, almost zero H-D bikes with stock rear tires that "always" go over 20k.

The late model touring bikes with 408 and 407 Dunlops are getting good reviews as far as mileage goes. But those are the first.

With the single exception of late model touring bikes, stock Harley tires have a very, very well deserved reputation for **** mileage.

Oh, true, but it's still fun to give them some line and let them run.

Well everyone can run or say what they like and if you want to make disparaging comments then ok with me. I'm sure everyone will just consider the source. We all have our opinions and that's what the forum is about. I've had great luck with Harley branded tires, that's all I'm saying.

Like you said, the late model touring bikes which have 408 & 407 tires do get phenomenal mileage if you are not in the habit of bouncing the rev limiter off the limit every time you leave a stop sign. I am on my 3rd set of American Elites and every set gets over 20k on the rear and 25 on the front. Note: American Elites are made in the same Buffalo, NY tire plant that the Harley branded tires are made. Basically the same tire with a different name emblazoned on the side.
