Question battery size issue

Hello all, I am having a difficult time getting the right size battery for my 1998 FLHTC. The first battery purchased from Deka Batteries here in PA was too tall and I couldn't put the seat back on. The second one would not fit in the battery tray, too long.
What are the battery dimensions for my bike?

Thanks, Phil

As you can see I too am located in eastern PA. I've been purchasing batteries from Deka at the plant more years than I want to admit. If you returned your OLD battery to Deka for a new one, you got the proper replacement. They are very knowledgeable people about batteries, both car and cycles plus other machinery that require batteries. You either returned a non FLH (touring) battery or gave them bad info about the battery you wanted. The problem is on your side of the fence, not Deka's.

the current touring models use the same battery as all touring series back to 1997 models. it's a 1997 part number.

IF you have some kinda aftermarket seat, that could be the problem- other wise it's making sure the battery is fully seated and not at angle in the carrier ( which I have seen more than once)

most batteries we use, H-D/ deka, yuasa duracell etc have the dimensions in the spec sheet

OUCH!

FYI,that $180+ battery is actually mfg'd by Yuasa (GYZ32HL / 500cca) that you can get for approx $50 less from Phatperf online.

Cost me $132 for that battery from Phatperf to my door coast to coast in 2 days from CA to NY.

Yuasa's GYZ32HL 500CCA battery spins my HD's motor over faster/better then the Deka ETX30L battery that was in my bike prior spec'd @ 400cca ever did or could though it did just most of the time.

I think its well worth the $132 for the extra cranking power the Yuasa battery has not to mention Yuasa has just as good if not a better rep for mfg high quality long lasting bike batteries like Deka has too.

But for the approx $98 to your door you can get Deka's ETX30L AGM 400CCA battery for online from Hightechbattery.com thats my 2nd choice for a high quality great priced AGM battery for our touring HD's too.

You could measure the battery tray, and approximate the height, then compare it to the battery you want.

I use batterymart.com. They have the MTX30L on sale for $89.95:

410CCA, 30Ah, and it fits in the tray of my 1998 FLTRI

Had the same issue last time I replaced my battery. Turns out that if you don't install the battery correctly it does not sit all the way down in the tray! I used a soft piece of wood to help guide it in and it fit perfectly.

Measure the battery that came out of the bike.
