I've had my #3-3 for several years now. I don't adjust them every time I carry a passenger, only when we are about to set off on a long trip. You will probably find a set-up which works fine for short trips 2-up and when solo, so you don't have to adjust them frequently. These things are so good they have a much wider window in which they work extremely well.

That is what I have done with mine. I rarely ride two up but have found a setting that I like riding solo that seems to work just fine two up. I have yet to bottom out. With the rough roads up here the difference from the stock 12" to the Ohlins was amazing.

Great to hear. Let me ask this, if you set the spring preload so that when you ride solo, the shock compresses to About 1/4" of the bumper. To NOT have to mess withpreload 2 up, do you adjust the springload to about 1/2" of bumper ....thought being you will not have to mess with it 2 up? Something in between?

I use my solo set-up for brief duo trips and only change the springs when touring two up. My damper settings work fine both solo and duo.

"Sometimes" I do reduce 2up preload for 1up. And lessen damping a couple clicks. No doubt it rides quite a bit firmer 1 then 2up. The ride quality difference depends on the weight of rider, passenger and luggage. People should share the specifics so the comments could be truly useful. ie - 13" hd 357, 25nm springs, me 190lb, passenger 125 with tour pak mounted, sag 30mm. And I do bottom out, just not very often anymore. Took a hit last week 2up at 70mph and the rear shocks bottomed out. Got jolted a little, would have been a lot with air shocks. The bike behaves so well with front and rear suspension upgrades that its a non-event.

bigdog - my math shows with a passenger your getting close to 400 pounds and with luggage - right at 400. As stated, your SG has rear shocks with a 2 inch travel - trying to find a sweet spot with stock shocks is going to be tough - if you want a really nice ride, your going to have to throw upwards of $700 at the rear - several companies will build these for you.. Ohlins are used by a lot of people here - I went with Works Performance and they work just fine for me. I had them on my 04 for 10 years and liked them - do your homework and you will learn a lot... maybe so much your head will hurt and just get you more confused, LOL People here are a good help in this area
