How do you know if the seal/plug is all the needs to be fixed? Basically I'm trying to figure out what would make it worth it to take the primary off and replace that component entirely. If it's just the oil leak, I'm happy to seal it off with RTV, but I want to make sure there's nothing else I should be concerned about and what the symptoms would be if there were other things going on inside with the stator.

Thank you all so much for your help/guidance on this!

Well, since it appears to be charging properly that would tend to indicate that the charging system is working properly.
A quick check would be to pull the seat and, with a digital volt meter, measure the voltage at the battery with the bike running at 1k to 1.5k rpm. You're looking for, I believe, 14.2 volts. If you want a more in depth check you can disconnect the plug where the wires coming from the block connect to the voltage regulator and check for shorts, correct resistance and voltage. Somewhere on here there is a complete troubleshooting guide for the whole charging system. One final check would be to pull the derby cover and smell the primary fluid. Im told that if the stator has started to burn the oil will have a VERY strong and distinctive smell of burnt wire.
Personally, if I got 14 volts at the battery, I'd stop there.
Oh, and the oil drips are coming from the primary, not the crankcase. Theres not really a good way to check that oil level short of draining and refilling with a measured amount of oil. I suspose if you're that concerned you could pull the derby cover and add 1/2 ounce or so but you want to be careful as they don't like to be overfilled.

Fellow Canadian. Don't panic. As has been stated, it's a small leak and many of them have it. The primary case is not under pressure. Just clean it carefully apply the sealant and get on with your life. The stator doesn't need to be changed for a little oil drip. The oil is primary fluid. Secondly again as stated , our season isn't long but if it makes you feel better then in winter drain your primary oil, disconnect battery (important), pull outer primary cover off , clean inside carefully and you will see where the stator wires exit the case. that is your leak point. They go to the voltage regulator (not a sensor). gently pull rubber back a bit and apply a nice bead of RTV sealant. Push back into place. (on inside of case side). Let it sit and dry with covers off for a few days. Should be good to go for life of stator. Reassemble and re-connect battery.
