I have a question about the Power-Flex header. They state "We replace the restrictive, power-grabbing section of the muffler with our own POWER chamber."
So how does this "POWER chamber" differ from me cutting a trap door and removing the CAT myself, or buying a decatted header off ebay.
Here is the site for the header itself. Looks to me like they just decat a stock header, but they claim they add a power chamber but you can not find any pics of the so called power chamber. http://www.americancustom.com/produc...ing-bikes.html
I bought one, it's just a decatted OEM pipe. Looked to me like they actually cut the cat in half, and migged it back together. Nothing magical there.
I never did install them as the pipe was damaged in shipping. The front flange that goes to the exhaust port got slightly mashed in shipping. I tried to get it back to round, but I was never satisfied that it was close enough to form a proper seal so I never used them. American Custom did nothing to help. I emailed and then called. I finally get a email response where they apologized but accepted zero responsibility for it. Being in Canada, they wouldn't take a core because shipping across the border is expensive, so I paid full price and basically got hosed. It may have been a different story ig I had of been in the US, but in my opinion, there are a few different econo type headers that re-use the factory heat shields for about the same money, or just decat the thing yourself. It seriously can't be that tough. I was new to all of this when I ordered it, looking back I think I would have just decatted my own header and run with it. Not worth the money IMHO.
As far as I could see the "Power Chamber" is just a hawgged out OEM cat. Ain't nothin' the create.
Yes, it would be nice to know exactly what they change/do, compared to a DIY cat removal !! ... ie, a pic , (before and after), of their more advanced power grabbing "Power Chamber"....
Maybe it's an '09 pipe. But if you hack out your cat you can fab in a piece to extend the output pipes into the chamber to eliminate O2 sensor back talk. You can make it long enough for true duals also.
I have never seen a pic of one that someone has cut open, that would tell the story. Maybe the guy who had one that is bent would cut into it and post a pic for us all to see.
