My 2006 Electra Glide Ultra Classic has been cutting off on me when I turn the handle bars. (Electrical and motor) Seems like these Electra Glides have a lot of electrical issues by reading other threds. Anyone have any ideas or have gone through this? Thank you in advance.
It was the main harness. It connects to a white box under my stereo which it is loose. I just followed all of the harness lines till one showed me the way. Thank you brother!
Glad you found your problem. Any motorcycle with 10 years under it's belt is going to begin showing signs of age with it's electrical system, especially with the connectors and switches.
Do thorough maintenance inspections and repair wiring harnesses to ensure all restraints are in good working order and not rubbing on anything. If you unclip a connector to remove something, be sure to secure the connector to it's anchor the right way upon reassembly. Reducing stress on your wires, ensuring they're insulated, will help to extend their lifetime. If you work around your handlebars, turn them full lock left and right to ensure they're not being pinched anywhere. Contact cleaner and Di-Electric Grease are your friends.
Di-electric grease is for high voltage connections, not 12vdc low amps. It will harden over time and is all but impossible to remove. Eventually you will replace the entire connector, if not the harness, with di-electric grease usage. Clean with an electrical cleaner, or no residue cleaner. Then lubricate, if you must. Using something like no-ox-id, or something similar, is best. I've worked on enough old bikes that the di-electric grease had hardened so much that the entire wiring harness had to be replaced, so I stopped using it 20 years ago.
Certainly appreciate you sharing your knowledge and experiences. My use of do-electric grease has been limited and in most cases as it was intended, spark plug boots and batteries. No issues yet, of course I'm only 51, day ain't over yet.
