is this normal
I had my engine worked on , needless to say the motor sounds noisy even after a complete tear down and rebuild the motor is all within spec , mech took off the top end twice and didnt find anything even did a valve job check the springs etc,,then at his own cost tore the motor apart even the bottom end and still didnt find anything wrong, by the way its a 2000 with 95bb and tensioner upgrade kit S&S lifter and pushrods, redhift 527 cam, mild build for sure but dam the motor is chattery,
Anyway after picking it up and riding it hard i decided to feel the exhaust out of the pipes , funny the front cylinder exhaust was very warm and the rear cyinder exhaust was cool, huge temp difference between the 2 , is this normal, oh it has the S&S power header that crosses under the frame with SE Fatshotz slip ons

a cool exhaust header usually means no combustion in that cylinder- fuel, spark valve stuck closed ( a valve stuck open will get smacked by the piston- ouch) any of those.

If there is a crossover the exhaust will typically favor one side over the other.
Not at all uncommon for one pipe to hotter than the other. If you really want to know, touch the pipes where they exit the heads. Be prepared to scream like a girl if you do this bare handed.

I also have s&s powertune dual header and at idle, the exhaust from the left side is cool. Nothing to worry about.

The valve train is quieter, but I don't think the exhaust is. I think too many people are putting the two sounds together. Give it mid next year and when a 2017 pulls up next to a 2016 or earlier, you won't be able to tell the two bikes apart if they both have aftermarket exhaust. That just isn't the case right now..
