I love my 2011 Road King except for one thing, the tank mounted speedo and instrument lights. I wear full face helmets and I have to tip my head down (eyes off the road) to see if my turn signals are on or even check speed.
The 2014 Road King Police models have the speedo mounted on the handlebar clamp. Does anyone know if it's possible to retrofit that unit to a 2011 Road King? At this point, I'm even willing to entertain after market units IF they'll at least give me speed and whether my turn indicator has canceled. I'd like to have all the info up there but beggars can't be choosers. Resale value is of no importance to me, I ride everything I have into the ground.
Anything would be a help and I'll even take "what the heck do you wanna do that for??"
As some here already know, we have been working on a Fairing for the Road Kings. One thing we are looking into is relocating the speedo and gauges. A lot of the Police bikes we have seem have the tach mounted to the bars, but not the speedo. You've seen a speedo attached to the bars?

change helmets ..... boom , done....l.saved you a ton, does a full face helmet relocate your eyes or something?
Naw it doesn't relocate your eyes. The chin bar blocks your downward peripheral vision. I ride in deer country at night, it's full face helmets for me.

I considered doing a bat wing fairing but it just isn't for me. As it is, I ride behind a SE windshield that's only 14" tall and much narrower than a stock RK screen. I absolutely love the speedo and tach next to each other on my 2002 FXD. Everything is right up on the handlebar clamp and in my line of sight. The FLHR is my first bike with a tank mounted gauge. I love my bike but I'd never do that again. I file that with spoked, inner tube wheels.
I have thought of mounting a GPS or a phone to the bars for speed but that doesn't solve the problem with not knowing whether my turn indicators (during the day) have canceled or not. In the end, I'm looking for a permanent solution to it and I don't think having a phone or GPS on the bars is my idea of it.
I am extremely appreciative of all the suggestions thus far. I need to delve deeper and follow this 2014 police model speedo thing.
