Yes it's walked in , I didn't see it at first till was pointed out. There should be a gap between race and gear to put puller on. So you will need the puller. Baker has a Utube to bump the shaft to get gap back to get puller on. I didn't have to do that though. If you get the bearing upgrade you don't need the install tool. That's what I did , Baker upgrade bearing, Jim's also makes one that can get from J&p.

Did you put that shift arm on or did it come with it? I see it is a two piece. I found one like it a few days ago on the interweb but, they wanted like $250 for it.

Oooops, wrong poster. HEY ROAD STAR.... LOL

I did the Baker master rebuild kit for 5 speed. If I had it to do over I would get the Baker shift kit & shift paw, then Jim's rebuild kit & primary bearing. I had couple things that didn't go smooth with there kit. My arm was loose once but it tightened up ok, the Baker shift arm is nice though.

Shifter shaft seal leak will cause oil to go everywhere as you move down the road and make a mess like that. It's good to change all the seals while you're that far.

Since I am changing the belt, I will need to partially remove the swing arm.

I should replace the starter, especially since it has 50k miles, and I occasionally encounter some knocks when starting.

Replace the necessary seals, gaskets and orings.

So, I need to purchase three tools:
Mainshaft bearing removal tool
Main shaft bearing install tool
Transmission pulley socket

Am I missing anything?

You say:

" I occasionally encounter some knocks when starting. "

Well if by that you mean starter makes a loud knock noise at times when starting thats a sure sign of the compensator going bad.

But a bad starter & or starter drive clutch makes more of a grinding noise then when going bad then a true " knock " or bang noise.

if you don't have a puller for that race, and without a gap behind it, you'll have a hard time anyway, you can use a grinder to cut the race off the shaft. just work slowly along the top of the race until it is so thin that a blue line appears from the heat. then the race will split when it cools and you hit it lightly with a hammer. then you can just pull it off with your fingers. be careful you don't get too aggressive and grind thru the race.
