Couldn't decide where to put this so thought I'd start here .
Let me start by saying I hate wearing chaps . That being said
I bought some fleece lined jeans today to try instead of chaps .
Anyone had any experience with them ? How warm are they for
riding this time of year below 60 degrees ? Do I need long johns
too ? Bought mama some too . They better work or I'll be in for
a long cold ride Sat . Thanks .
I have fleece lined jeans and they're good to the mid-50s for me, even with long johns. Long rides on the highway and the wind cuts through them after awhile.
I also have chaps and leather over pants. If you like riding year-round, do yourself and your better half a favor, get the leathers.
If it's really cold I wear merino wool long johns under my fleece-lined jeans. I have found that a set of gaiters really helps, as they keep the wind entirely out of the pant legs. Also the H-D "soft lowers" really make a difference in wind exposure to the legs. Firstgear heated socks for the toes, and Gordon's heated gloves... and I'm good into the 20's.

I second the soft lowers. I bought a pair last year and with long johns under my jeans i stay warm to about low 40s
