Default 2003 RKC comp nut issues?

I guess the title says it. Were there any issues with the compensator on the 2003 RKC? I have 36K-km on mine and I don't know if I should look or even worry.

don;t sweat it.

the comps on my evos have both gone over 80K no problem- your 03 uses an evo comp

the comp on my 09 is fine so far

increasing power- displacement- compression will all point out the next weakest link in the chain.

and it seems that even later stage power levels are too much for the 2006~2010 and the revised 2009~2013 ( "cvo") comp.
2014 redesign and scrapers for oiling...

The compensator is something that doesnt normally work fine 1 min and then crap out & leave you stranded the next unless maybe someone didnt tighten the main attachment bolt to proper spec and it comes loose allowing the comp to come appart causing havick in the rpim case.

When a comp is going bad you will generally get symptoms like for example,a big bang noise coming from prim case area when starting the motor.

You can also experience / hear a metallic jingling type noise & or a shuttering feeling thru the bike in general when engaging the clutch as your taking off in 1st gear from a dead stop too.

So bottom line is when a comp is going bad you should hear & feel 1,2, if not all of the above symptoms as the compensator is going bad giving you plenty of time to get home & get it replaced in most cases.

Quite a few guys get a few thousand additional miules out of the comp's on their bikes after they have experienced some of the symptoms & realize it's on the way out before that actually replace it.

So if your comps isnt giving you any symptoms at this point don't worry about it & just keep those telltale symptoms & signs of a comp going bad in mind for if it was to crap out on you someday so your aware of what's going on giving you time to replace it before it totally fails.

From your title, I gather you are asking about the comp nut and not the compensator itself? If that is the case, the comp nut can come loose over time. In 2003 they changed the torque procedure as it was the first year not using the Timken bearing. Nothing to worry about, other than keeping an ear out for the noise a loose comp nut will make.

To put a fine point on it based on the title; mill a little off the back side of the nut and re-assemble with loctite. The change from Timken bearings in 2003 on the left side created the problem. I'd do it sooner than later as it'll take out some expensive parts if it comes off.
