Default A little insight please

As of right now I currently ride and like my 2010 Ultra limited. I have been toying with the idea of an upgrade to a new M8 Ultra limited and thank the forum members who have shared there thoughts on the new model.
So here is my dilemma......I like my current bike. The only thing I would change and would appreciate is a bit more power for freeway entrances and for say passing on hills.
A beautiful 2012 Ultra CVO is at my local dealer for a good price. It's very low on kilometres and would obviously be an upgrade in the power dept.
I would use the heated bars and seat on cool morning so that is a plus.

Now the 2017 limited has the heated bars, new motor, and a few other upgrades.
So would the CVO be enough of an " upgrade" over my current bike power wise or should I just pull my thumb out of my **** and get the latest and greatest model.
If the guys who have owned both could chime in it would be fantastic. Like I said I am happy with my ride. Maybe just looking for an excuse for something new that maybe not needed.

look more carefully at the assumption that the 2012 has alot more power...if comparing stock vs stock, both motorcycles have to adhere to noise and emission regulations..maybe it has 2 or 3 more hp...you can make perceived power gains by taking 10 kilos of junk out of the saddlebags, or removing the tourpak.

if you have money to burn, go straight to an M8- but wait until all the bugs are known and remedied.

if money is a concern, I bet that 2010 is really nice -is that in the red/black or the blue/black?
and if stock, for a under $1000 can exceed the power of a stock 110- for under $3000 can really make some power.

just re-reading your post...I have a 96" stage 1, on ramps and hills are never a problem- are you shifting too soon?- if you are merging, running up over 5000 will get you moving pretty quick and on upshift you have the revs right in the power band.

Default More Power

If you are happy with all but the power on your bike now, why not just add more power to it?

A 107 kit with a good tune will put a stock M8 to shame as far as power goes and it will do it for a lot less money.

the 110 in the CVO is a dog in stock form. a well prepped 103 is very much able to hold with a cvo.

i would not give you a buck for a 110. heavy valve spring, lots of heat, 255 cams, low compression etc, problems problems. i know i have 1. course it now has a 120r vs a 110.

invest some bucks in you current engine, say $2,500, get a 107 kit and pull 120/120 easy.

I put some aftermarket slip-ons, a open intake and a FP3 tuner on my 2013 Road Glide Ultra. There was a small power gain which was useful with two up riding over stock. The Rushmore bikes had their problems during the first year of production, I'd wait another year for HD to see the oil leak problems and anything else popping up on the M8's.

I agree with all stated here.
Always cheaper (value) to repair or upgrade then to buy new.
You Limited is a great bike and color.
I also say spend the money on a known good motor and you will love the results.
Do some reading on this site www.fuelmotousa.com also call them and tell them what you are planning. Trust what they tell you.
This may get your attention: The trade difference to trade your '10 Limited for an M8 will be about $17. If you plan on selling your '10, the market is flooded with 'em.

Just add a low to mid range torque cam to the 10. It will serve the intended purpose well for a low cost.

Note: My stock 12 RGC CVO is 12.4 at 111 mph in the 1/4. I guess to some that's a "dog".

Thanks Mike. It's merlot with gold metal flake I believe. Love the colour. I could be up shifting to soon as this is my first VTWIN so I am really use to roll on power of an inline 4. That is something I know my Ultra will never be and am happy with that. All I would want is it to be a bit more lively when I twist the throttle. I realize my bike was never intended for break neck speeds or canyon carving .it does what I want it to very nicely.

Don't let them fool you the M8 is a different bike.
Nothing wrong with a 2010. I comes down to the checking account and what do you want.
You get a lot more from a M8than just a little more engine.

You really need to rent an M8 and ride it to get a handle how different things are between them and a twin cam based bike. Not so much the power issue but everything around it , the heat issue alone will sell you on one. I've ridden twinkies and they all have been ball cookers even in in 50's like I rode in today, my M8 RK I've yet to feel heat coming off it except at the cat and even that's been minimal.

Next thing you really notice is the suspension after today's ride I can tell now I'm in deep **** once my confidence levels hits the comfort zone, bit of a learning curve after years on my old bone shaker. Handling is very much improved, no hints of wiggle or instability even on tore up roads. This ones gonna be every bit the canyon carver as well as a sweet road bike.
