Can somebody explain to me the difference between Amsoil SVG 75W-90, 75-W110 and 75W-140 gear oil? I'm planning on switching to Amsoil in all 3 holes at my 5000 service interval which should be within the next week. I'm gonna use some sort of gear oil vs. just the regular MCV 20W-50. However I don't know which of the above is best for my situation. Any insight would certainly be helpful in my decision. Thanks in advance.
Eachgrade you listedis a successively heavier oil. Amsoil recommends their 20w50 motor oil in the transmission but I believe that's only tostay with the "one oil for every hole" practice. Amsoil's alternative to motor oil in the tranny is their 75-90 synthetic "severe gear oil." This is what I run in my 6-speed.
75/90 svg works great in tranny. if you have a side hack or are planning on pullin a trailer use 75/140.
the 75/110 is new and simply in the mid of the other two.
MEN,
I run SVG 75W-90 in my KAWASAKI brute force 750i atv IN BOTH DIFFS. This stuff is amazing. And like said before THE higher thenumbers the oil gets heavier, FOR YOUR HARLEY Ide run 20w-50 if in all 3 holes like i do,Ide contact AMSOIL directly for thier considerations if you have any questionsI have never delt with a Oil Company like amsoil they are willing to help you to the MAX ! I Run it in my Bike ,atv, and truck, best there is !
Tj
I run the 75W140 in mine seems to shift better with this than the 75W90. I bought some of there 75W110 and told my son to put it in his Glide when he had his 1000 miles service done. He did and it did shift better than the HD oil but after awhile he said neutral was getting harder to fine so he drained it and put the 75W140 in and now neutral is easy to fine.
I had my HD synthetic changed out at last service to Amsoil 75W140 in the gears. I like it. Nice shifting and quiet. I also use Amsoil in the crankcase.
