I made a 520 mile run to Orlando on Tuesday and returned on Thursday. When I was getting ready to return, I checked my oil and was a quart low. I have been running Amsoil this time around but couldnt find any Amsoil so I had to put in a quart of Harley synthetic. I figured since they are both the same weight, there should be no problems. What do you think?
I think not. I've several articles on cager oils and they say as long as you you stick with the same type, grade, and rating it's ok till your next oil change.
I suggest next time you take a trip to our Fair City you carry an extra bottle of our favorite.
No harm, no foul. If you read the Amsoil website carefully, you will find information that indicates different oils may be mixed with Amsoil.....even dino oil. The only result is that the lubricating properties may be somewhat lower than straight Amsoil....but other than than, it's no problem.
No oil or extremely low on oil is worse than mixing. If I find myself low on oil on the highway somewhere....I usually put any 20w50 in the crankcase. If that cannot be found...then I will put 15w40 in there.
Mixing is not going to hurt anything in a pinch. That is what I don't like about Amsoil...cannot find it anywhere.
That is my question too. It may have been just a little low when I left but nothing to be concerned about. It is burning it because it's not leaking. I guess that running at 75 MPH for 8 or 9 hours burned up 1/2 quart. Not good for 520 miles,,,but it runs good

That's probably because they know you cant find it on the road
That's what I was wondering. TC's don't use much oil, typically, and if he had an '05 I'd think he had the valve-guide problem so many of these had. If that was my bike I'd start looking for the route the oil is taking out of the bike.
