I have everything about 98% rounds complete but finally got the Factory 47 Malo's, 14", wrapped up and buttoned up today. I still have a couple touch-up things to do, but took them out for a ride today anyway

Picked up my bike today from the dealer. Stage 2 SE torque cam, V&H monsterdual headers, V&H High output mufflers, open air, Dyno tune after 1K Miles and AIM light force slave cilinder. Chubby Wild one 8” apes. And some other bits. Drove it home today with a big smile.

Those are such nice bars, but they’re so damn wide. Every bagger bar is in the 35” width range. I wish someone would make narrower bars.

Anyway, did you need to extend hydraulic lines? I know the two switch packs do, but the lines?

Also, what shield?

Thanks.

Factory hydraulic and brake lines work but I did unclip then and have to rearrange the brake line a little. Before I buttoned everything up I lifted the front end so I could throw the wheel left and right to look for any binding or excessive movement in any cabling, everything looked pretty stable. I would definitely do things a little different next time though. The Factory 47 opening for all the wiring is smaller than the factory bars, that is significant. For these bars the switchpack wires come out with about an 1" extra so you already you have to extend them but I don't like having that Molex right there in the top of the nacelle. If I did it again I would go ahead and splice the wires 10" or so and have all that inside the bar, that way the wires are coming out with no interference with the connection.

The windshield is a Freedom Shield.

As far as the width of the bar, they are pretty comfortable. You could always go the T bar route that Factory 47 has, or the KST's that this guy has

Nice, Thanks. My bars are KST outlaws. They are ok. Not as heavy (thick walled) as I’m used to, but they work fine. That shield looks great. I like the more angular cut, and it seems wider then stock. How tall is yours? And how tall are you? I’m currently using a Clearview Shields 21” with adjustable vent. Pretty good, but I still get some buffet. I’ve got a dog dish and fangs (not HD) but I can’t get rid of it. I may try a considerably shorter screen to get that transition zone lower and my head in clearer air.

that is an 18" windshield. I'm 5'9". On either a Road King with stock windshield, Road King with the above windshield or Road King Special with above windshield, I've never experienced any kind of buffeting. To me it's a Road King so there's always this nice pleasant movement of air behind the windscreen. With the lowers, it's now all off my face but I haven't felt any kind of real "buffeting". I put the lowers on to get some of that air off me in the colder months that rushes up the side of the tank into my face. Seems to work pretty good for a non-fairing setup.

Problem for me is, since I’m 6’ 3” I’d need a 24” tall shield to be equivalent to your 18. My 21” vented Clearview is nice, but it still gives me that head slapping buffet above about 55 mph. It doesn’t get bad until 65 and up, but it’s annoying enough to want to change.

My past dynas and my current Softail have cafe fairings that do a great job of keeping wind off my torso yet my helmet is in clear air. Glide Pro makes a cafe fairing for the King, which I may pick up for the summers. Only in the winter I like more wind protection from the icy cold.

So im thinking maybe a shorter shield would give me more protection then the cafe style fairing, but keep that turbulence zone below my helmet. Trial and error I guess.

Dealer finished Stage II upgrade. Installed Arlen Ness intake, Cobra powerport headers, TAB BAM sticks with Zombie baffles, red shift 468 cam. HP 104.96, TQ 130.22, 114 M8 engine.

Now it sounds like I wanted.
