The All things ROAD KING SPECIAL THREAD
I hope I never have to decide between the two!
Anyway, Ive always been afraid of working on forks, which came from inexperience. Since I changed sliders on my Low Rider last year, I figured I could give this a shot.
Pretty simple actually. Drop the oil lock into the slider. Install the fork seal (Bought a Jims tool for that off Amazon) drop in the top out spring. Drop the cart in. A little loctite thread sealant on the bottom bolt, new washer and torqued it down. Filled the tube, purged the air per the install instructions (Simply pumping the tube a few times, then the cartridge the same). Topped off the level using another amazon sourced tool. Got it all together and back on the bike.
Then the fun part. Found the adjusters on the top of the caps interfered with the Nacelle. Yay. Overthinking it for way too long and ended up picking up a 1.25 hole saw at Ace and drilled holes by hand. Expected the worse, but happily came out pretty good. Touched up the edges and got it together.
Had to convert to different bars as well, as most ape-style will block access to the caps for adjusting the carts. Bought the HD handlebar clamp cover which worked perfectly with my new 14 Wild1 MX street fighter bars.
Set it up per initial settings and went for a ride. Night and day difference. Had these in my old Dyna and loved them. Made the Road King into a new bike. Ended up adding one more click of compression and three more rebound dampening and it feels GREAT. Smoother then stock, yet tighter and more control (No idea how they do that!)
Here are some photos. Im awful at documenting this stuff, so photos are lacking...
Scuffed the hell out of the caps. Oh well. Had to lower them a few MM below the factory height to clear the Nacelle, but Howard from MotorcycleMetal.com, my suspension guru, said it was fine like that.
I know, not one photos of the fork assembly. Like I said, Im lousy at documenting stuff.
Really happy with this upgrade.

Needed a couple of different connectors for the Aux lights on my Road King as I recall (it's been a while) and a toggle switch for the Nacelle.

Question: Is the 2020 oil pump a direct replacement for Softail also? Or is it just to address the possible touring bike issues.
I wonder if the 2020 replacement pump part number is the same as the one in your LRS.
