Not quite sure what’s going on here but this is what’s happening.
The speedo will all of a sudden just stop and drop right to 0 and with it the radio volume with decrease almost half volume. It does it at all speeds and no other gauges are affected. The engine maintains it rpm but the speedo will just crash right down to zero then about 5 seconds later jump right back up to the current speed and along with it the radio volume. Everything in the console is stock except for Hog Tunes. A few times the speedo quit for a min or so then came back up. It does it weather or not the radio is on but like I said when the radio is on it cuts the volume by half.
I put in a Thundermax about 1000 miles ago but this just started about 100 miles ago within an hour of having a Run/Turn/Brake module installed at Rossmeyers HD in Daytona.
Anyone have any ideas? I’m thinking ground somewhere.
I would start with the speed sensor, pull and clean first.
Stock HD radios have an automatic volume control that gets a signal from
how fast your going (not exactly sure how).(I thought it was from outside noise)
This control is manually setable for sensitivity.
From your description, fix the speedo and the radio will act normally.
But don't over look a ground.
Turn signal cancellations are also controlled by the speedo.
You got a new run/ brake/ turn controller don't overlook that either.
distance switch in the speedo cancels the turn signals along with time circuit
in the controller.
HellI thought Barney was screwing with me about the speed sensitive volume, sorry Barney! Anyway I will check the sensor just one more question, what does it look like?????????Is it the one with the two L shaped wire boots going into it on top of the tranny in back of the chrome tranny cover? Looks like a 5/8 nut.
I had the same problem with my '02 RKC. Turned out to be a bad speed sensor. This sensor affects many things including: cruise control, turn-signal cut off, radio auto-volume, and engine idle speed.
