I'd wonder about the regulator as well. You had high voltage spikes. The VR is supposed to limit output to 14.2ish volts. Spikes means it's not. My suggestion is to be sure they check and verify it's working right. You don't want to trash a new stator.

Stator and regulator tend to go at about the same time. I did not replace the VR at the time I changed my stator on my Buell and ended up replacing the VR a month later.

You're saying the stator is only $90? Mine was over $200 and wasn't as large.

No, I'm saying the compensator spring pack is $90

Final update on this.

Note shorted coil section of the stator at 12 o'clock in the picture.

Also bad compensator spring pack caused wearing on the rotor. So, new stator, rotor, spring pack, and they used the VR I had purchased to replace the old one (after a test ride, voltage still bouncing around).

Total parts and labor = $1K
