I have a 2004 Road King carbureted with 88ci 5spd and vance&hines longshots on it. My top speed is 86 mph. The bike has less then 12k miles on it and 140 compression in both cylinders. Any and all advice appreciated!
I have an 02 carbureted 88" Electra Glide. I wouldn't think your only option to get above 86mph would be to go to a 95" upgrade. What air cleaner are you using and what has been done to the carb?
I'd agree with checking the carb and possibly going with a larger hi-speed jet.
I had a '00 T/C 88 injected and stock it would flat out do 106MPH.
Once I had the "95" kit installed that bike felt 200#'s lighter!
The question is, why do you want to go more that 86MPH on a touring bike?
I've only had my '13 CVO Ultra to about 90MPH twice and I don't plan (or need) to do that again!
Another issue in giving your bike more fuel/power is that is WILL use more fuel and if you start using all of that power at the wrong time/place, that could get expensive also.
FWIW, I have a Springer with an EVO (carbed) and a 5-spd tranny.
After Dyno-Jetting the carb and installing straight pipes, my top-end is about 90MPH. I think the OEM pipes would probably give me some more top-end but again, I have no plans nor need to go any faster.
If your bike starts and runs good, I'd leave well enough alone.

No expert here but something seems to be up with that bike needing a tune of sorts. Still have an 01 Road King and before any engine modifications I was able to hit 105. Rarely run any bike at full out RPM for very long but still curious what a bike is capable of.
