I took a nice 300 mile ride yesterday through the Everglades. I was heading east on Tamiani trail which is one lane in each direction with a speed limit of 60. Traffic was light. I look in the distance and I see something in my lane that wasn't there a second before. I'm looking to be sure it's headed in the same direction I am headed and realize it's not. Ok, figure it's a car passing and it's still a good distance away so I slow a little and wait for him to cut back in. Well, he doesn't cut back in and now he's flashing his lights at me. The guy in an SUV is passing a line of cars. Figure if he's doing 70 and I'm doing 50 we have a pretty rapid closing speed. Tamiami trail is a bare two lanes. There is nothing on the other side of the white line but dirt grass and mother nature. This guy could have pulled back in but he was determine to pass all five cars at once. He's flashing hisfu*&ing lights at me and I got no place to go. I'm about to run off the road hugging the white line when he begins to pull back in after passing the last car. We passed with his left tire on the greasy stip in my lane. If I had to leave the blacktop there would be no way tokeep the Road Glide up. If I thought I could have caught him I would have tried. Almost ruined a great ride but did leave a bitter taste. I won't forget this one for a long time.
I do the same ride a lot, all the way over to Marco Is from Miramar, that happens all the time on this road. Really a lot of DUMASSES in Miami, new arrivals from all over the south and old blue hairs from the North. Have to be careful and keep the radar active, darwin will catch up to these guys.
That sucks man. - Had a similar situation here in Texas on Hwy 79- execept when the turd pulled back into his lane he clipped the bumper of the 18 wheeler he passed. This threw this POS into a spin across the highway in front of me. I was helpless and just watched. Thankfully we didn't colide, but the car ended up on it's side in my bar ditch. I didn't stop b/c i would have pulled the him out of his car... and nothing good would have come of that action.
Coming to down towards you this afternoon for a conference. Will be in Pointe Verda. Thinking about renting a bike.
People are crazy out there and it ain't gettin any better. Something like that can not only ruin a good ride, it can cost you and your passenger your lives. I would have been tempted to follow them, but then what, do you shoot them, scream at them, beat the tar out of them, or what?
Shoot them!! Road rage, baby. LOL But seriously, glad nothing bad came about. Most people just can't judge the speed of a bike comiing at them, or don't care.
Glad you made it through with no damage but I hope you had the time to at least give them the finger.
Even ifI'm not going to try to chase them down, I always let them think about it for a moment.
Mabey the nextbike will benefit if they consider what might happen.
Ive had a couple of those "they wouldnt have done that if I was in my Expedition" experiences lately. Its not as much about respecting bikers as it is respecting life itself. People are a$$holes plain and simple. stay safe out there.
Last Friday, I was chased by a Acura SUV for 10 miles at over 100 MPH on the interstate. Finally caught up to a local police car and just rode next to him until my exit. Don't know what set him off, as I consider myself a most courteous rider.
btw, it was in my sv1000s. Still waiting for my Street Glide that comes in this week. =)
People are freaking nuts. I have the same thing happen when I drive my 07 Charger Super Bee! Happened to me 1x on my bike and 2x this weekend in my car. I think a lot off poeple are Jealous of us havingHD bikes too.
