12hrs is a long way!
Hopefully the motor will not be a loss and you can build it back.

Don't know what kind of oil your using, but my indy here in my hometown told me he has seen that a lot over the years and attributes the problem to synthetic oil. He said using the HD 20/50 regular oil is the way to go and he said he hasn't had the problem with the lifters using this oil. Just sayin.

The lifter issue has been a well documented problem on this forum and many other forums. Its not a type of oil issue, it is a lifter issue.
With all of the threads on lifter failure, not all of them were running synthetic oil.

I had not had the bike long enough to change the oil. Not to add fuel to the synthetic/dino fire but the previous owner ran Amsoil in the bike.

I know Jason @ Faribault HD is a very good tuner, Bob @ Razorback is also very good. What kind of tuning device came with the bike?

I guess you're one of the lucky ones. He has torn down many engines over the years and that was his summation.
