My bike recently started throwing a P0374 CKP (crankcase position sensor) trouble code. Before I just blindly replace the sensor, is there some diagnostics I can do with a volt ohm meter? Seems like I ought to be able to read a resistive load value on the sensor and a voltage on the connector to the sensor. Does anyone know what those values might be?
test 4.25 connect breakout box to ecm(leave ecm disconnected)
Resistance more then 1 megaohm? between terminal 30 and 28,and 12 and 28. if yes pinched wire/ loose or finish the colum of about
17 more steps and another diag kit needed to long to type.
if no disc 79 with ecm disconnected and check megaohms again, if less then 1 megaohm repair short to ground on r or bk wires between 78b and 79b, if no replace sensor.
There is some info if you google "how to test a Harley crank sensor", some are long posts. Some times they just need cleaned and usually cause more issues than a code.
Thanks for taking the time to post that Vernal. I have no break out box, so after I changed the crank sensor without success I took the bike to my local Indy. According to him, the fuel pressure regulator was bad. Lesson learned.
